Pack Adventures: England Snapshots
Rossville Christian Academy is headed to Greece in 2019! Nearly 20 students are taking the trip of a lifetime as some of our students have done before!
Pack Adventures started in March of 2014 when 17 students headed to England, Ireland, Wales, and Paris. While abroad these students rode the Eurostar through the Channel Tunnel from London to Paris, went to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and visited the Louvre. They also saw the Book of Kells in the library at Trinity College in Dublin, took a
ferry from Ireland to Wales, and went to the historic Blarney Castle.
Students were also able to go behind the scenes for the Harry Potter movie series on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. Students saw icon sets from the movie including the Great Hall, Gryffindor boys dormitory, and the Weasley families’ living room. The tour also included walk-through exhibits for sets such as such as the Hogwarts Express, Ministry for Magic, and the Dursley’s home. Props from the movie peppered the tour, so students got to see their favorite characters costumes and other props all while seeing what it takes to produce such a giant movie franchise.
The goal of the Pack Adventures is to enable our students to participate in experiential learning as they immerse themselves in other cultures. We want them to experience first-hand the places and histories they have only before been able to read about in a textbook or see in movies. In all, we want to expand our students’ vision of the world and their place in it.
Rossville Christian Academy is partnered with Education First (EF) so students can get credit for their trips abroad. To get credit toward their high school diploma, EF has developed an online course that combines pre-tour planning and research with on-tour learning and a post-tour creative project. By completing their coursework using weShare—EF's digital learning space—students can earn 0.5 elective credits. weShare guides students to develop projects that reflect their own personal interests and strengths, and their work is published online in the project gallery.
Through EF’s partnership with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), students can earn college credit by signing up for PDHU 399: Interculturalism & Global Exploration. In this course, students will explore their destination, challenge their own assumptions, and discover connections between people, places, and cultures. The course culminates with a final project that allows students to demonstrate a greater awareness of their global community. https://www.eftours.com/help-center/education/college-credit
